Uppalavanna was advised to be amongst the two chief individual disciples of the Siddhartha, the new state Khema.She was the girl of a wealthy distributor and was proverbial for her high model. Her folk substance "one with the hue of the vesture lotus".

She was the daughter of a businessperson from Savatthi (Shravasti). She was named Uppalavanna because her complexion was that of a cheerless lotus. She was so lovely that when she came of age, muscular and wealthy suitors conveyed messengers to her theologist asking for her assemblage. Not wanting to displease so many grouping, he suggested that she embellish a bhikkhuni. She agreed and became a nun. She quick progressed in musing and became an Arahant (fully free).
